The Golden Age

Sophistication meets sheer brilliance with this up-and-coming trend. It is so stunning and simple to pull off, that we just cannot resist it. Here are our suggestions to rock the gold trend…

Colour palette: needless to say, the central focus for this trend is a lush gold. Used lightly during the day and less modestly at night, pair this colour with neutral tones and warm browns for a gorgeous effect.

Hair: a gold hair piece or two will give your look instant glamour… or why not go all the way and apply streaks of Oribe 24K Gold Pomade, £47.00 (2), onto your hair?

Face: keep your face bare and natural to not draw attention away from the gold, or seek inspiration from Dsquared² autumn/winter 2011 and sculpt your cheekbones. Blush should be used with moderation but looks lovely with gold for a healthy-looking complexion.

Eyes: we think this trend is all about a beautiful eye, so brighten yours with a shimmery gold liner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in El Dorado, £13.00. Although we think a simple streak of gold works best, you can also play with a variety of hues for a more dramatic smoky eye; use Wet n Wild Colour Icon Eye Shadow Palette in Vanity, approx £15.00. Seek inspiraton from Dsquared² and mix your golds with an intense black for added drama.

Lips: as this trend focuses mainly on the eyes, the lips should be toned down and kept discreet. Try a light coral or a matte peach lipstick to balance the look: a good option is Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick in Peach Silk, £10.99 (1).

Nails: work your nails according to the rest of your outfit and makeup. Stick to nude colours or add a touch of metallic gold with Zoya Nail Polish in Goldie, £9.25 (3).

Do you think you will be going gold next season?
